Last week Auðna - Technology Transfer Office Iceland hosted a successful Masterclass + Design Sprint for Search & Rescue, with an amazing group of participants and partners. This included a diversity of creative minds with a variety of backgrounds, nationalities and skills. The different teams that were created came up with smart solutions for Slysavarnafélagið Landsbjörg (ICE-SAR) who do voluntary work in challenging conditions every day.

The winning team (Gamithra Marga, Atli Jasonarson, Alex Grenier, Rebekah Mercs and Luis Melo) had focussed on better communication systems. The 2nd prize went to a team that developed new solutions for nutrition (Ethan Klinkenborg, Madeleine Haider, Magdalena Charlotta Holst and Sylva Lamm). Other teams designed an improved lightweight rescue stretcher and solutions for hypothermia and hygiene in extreme conditions. All did a great job with the limited time that was available.

The event was opened with a speech of the Icelandic Minister of Industry, Innovation and Tourism, Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, and on the last day the Icelandic Minister of Education, Science and Culture, Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir gave some closing remarks.

We at Auðna - Technology Transfer Office Iceland would like to thank our participants, partners, mentors and panellists for a fun and inspiring week. This marked the start of a collaboration that we can build further on with the aim to create resilient solutions for society.

Partners: Slysavarnafélagið Landsbjörg, ESA - Space Solutions, Arctic Council EPPR Working Group, 66North, Summitclimb and Summittrek, East of Moon, Listaháskóli Íslands, Wilson School of Design at KPU, ICEYE, SKYCORP, Feed the Viking, DISACT.

VERKÍS TAKES THE NEXT STEP IN UTILIZATION OF 3D DESIGN DATA

Auðna TTO contributed in making a collaborative agreement between Envalys and Verkís. The agreement enables both parties to further develop the Envalys software solutions, VRPsychLab and VRTerrain for Verkís work processes. The collaboration will provide valuable information and methods for utilization of Envalys software in Verkís work routines, for example in increasing the efficiency in stakeholder communication.

Envalys solutions offer research on well-being and experience in a three-dimensional environment that is set up with the help of the equipment, thus increasing the chances that what is being designed serves its purpose.

We at Auðna TTO celebrate this milestone and congratulate both companies on their collaboration!

Last Friday we celebrated our 1st anniversary!
Looking back, Auðna's first year has been an eventful one. Apart from all the practical aspects of building a company we have used the year to broaden our network and connect with people within academia, industries and investment companies. We launched a Nordic Tech Transfer network and finished our first assignments with the aim to create positive change to society. Thanks to all of you who have been part of our journey so far. We look forward to working with you in the future and we wish you Happy Holidays!

MASTERCLASS FOR SCIENTISTS
On August 14-16th 2019, TTO Iceland held a 3-day Masterclass for Scientists with focus on how to create sustainable businesses and valuable solutions out of their research. It takes more than a great idea and a can-do attitude to transform society, to revolutionise industries and integrate pioneering technologies. It also requires entrepreneurial skills, IP strategy, the right team, connections to key networks and access to investment. The Masterclass was held at the Iceland Ocean Cluster.

Mentors included Jón Ingi Benediktsson from Accelerace in Denmark, Eugen Steiner from Health Cap in Sweden, Hannes Ottosson from Innovation Center Iceland, Einar Mantyla, CEO of Auðna TTO, Pétur Vilhjálmsson from Hugverkastofan, Anna-Margrét Guðjónsdóttir from Evris / Inspiralia, Ásta Sóllilja Guðmundsdóttir and Susan Christianen, Business Development Managers at Auðna TTO.

Many thanks to all participants and mentors for making this a successful event! We will have a follow-up in September with a pitch-day, and look forward to repeating this Masterclass in the future!
